Masked Soft Seedlings - A Stamping with Friends Blog Hop

Hey, Stampers!  It's time for another blog hop...so welcome and thank you for joining us!
If you are new to my blog, Stamping with Friends is a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators who share our love of card making with you through monthly blog hops with various themes. If you are following the hop, then you'll have just popped over from Angie McKenzie's Nature's INKspiration blog. I hope you took a minute to leave a comment for her as I'm sure she'll appreciate it just as much as I will. If you are starting the hop with me, thank you so much and I hope you enjoy what I and the other hoppers have prepared for you today!

This month, our hop focuses on the masking technique. What is masking you may ask, well...masking is a way of protecting an area from ink when stamping or blending. In its simplest form, masking with low-tack tape can create a straight line or a frame. Masking an image before stamping another image gives the appearance of one image in front of another.

Today, I'm sharing my favorite masking method with you...I combine masking with ink-blending to create a background scene. As you know, my stamping style is simple yet elegant and this technique lends itself very well to my style.

I first die-cut my mask using an oval die (choice of size is up to you) on a basic white panel cut to the same size as that I'll use for my artwork panel...in this case 3 3/4" x 5".  Blue is my favorite color so I chose a blue palette of Coastal Cabana, Balmy Blue, Tranquil Tide, and Starry Sky.  Once I'd done blending, this is the result...love it...

I knew I wanted a beachy, tropical feel and I wanted to use the Sunkissed set (SU Jul - Dec Mini Catalog pg. 69 )..being of Caribbean origin--the US Virgin Islands to be exact--I'm influenced by all things tropical...so this was a no-brainer..and paired it with one of the sentiments from the Simply Fabulous set.

I next stamped the palm tree image in Versafine Clair in Nocturne and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder for additional texture and shine. I cut two 1/4" x 5" strips of Parakeet Party to add as an accent color and highlight the colors a little more. Mounted this panel to the card base using the adhesive foam sheet.

To finish off the card, I stamped the sentiment, also in Versafine Clair in Nocturne, then triple heat embossed it before matting it with a piece of basic black and mounted it to the panel with dimensionals. And there you have it...

Thanks for joining us today on this masking blog hop...don't forget to leave us a comment or two.
