Shaded in Pale Magenta

I love being able to combine challenges. Over at SplitCoastStampers dot com, the color challenge on 6/23/2021 consisted of Stampin' Up!'s Pale Papaya, Marvelous Magenta, and Shaded Spruce.  When I looked at these colors, flowers and birds came to mind.

I'm also participating in a card swap that features Stampin' Up!'s Free as A Bird set.  So I said to myself, "Self, don't you think it would make sense to combine the two challenges?" Yes, I do talk to myself, doesn't everyone?  LOL  I purchased this set when it was first available as a Suite with the Designer Series Paper and the coordinating dies...and while I'd used it some, I didn't really give it the attention it deserved.  So here's what I created to satisfy both challenge and swap.

I stamped and embossed the main image in Versa Fine Claire and clear embossing powder. Then I doubled down and colored the images with the Stampin' Blends and created the background using the alcohol ink blending technique with 91% alcohol. In other versions of this card, I used the Stampin' Up! Blending Brushes and added the color directly to the panel.  The alcohol ink-blended background has fast become one of my favorite techniques...I'm sure you'll see it many more times to come.

I'm totally amazed by the awesome talent of my fellow cardmaking friends and demonstrators.  There were a total of five (5) myself included, that chose to participate in the swap.  Swap rules were really very simple...use the featured stamp set, at least one layer (card base in our case does NOT count as a layer and must have an embellishment of some kind.  My embellishment was a little harder to see...I used Wink of Stella to add a bit of glimmer and shine and then the vellum background as my other embellishment.

So take a look at the cards the other swappers created:

Unfortunately, by the time this blog went live, I had not received the cards from two other swappers.  I'll upload them when I get them so you'll see the other creations.
