The Gorgeous Slate was Crushed Color Challenge

Oh, how I love a color challenge!  Last week over on SplitCoastStampers the color challenge included: Stampin' Up!'s Gorgeous Grape, Smoky Slate, and Crushed Curry!  If you are a member of a fraternity, you'll recognize that these colors are similar to those of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. With that in mind, I thought... hmmm ...masculine card.  So...here we go!  I have lots of floral stamps, but I don't think florals work well for masculine cards so I searched my brain and still came back to florals...of sorts.  I decided to use the Stampin' Up! Tulip Fields Bundle...1, because I hadn't used it before and 2) I needed to create my version of a card created by Sharon Coleman for the Fabulous Fun Friday Stampers' February Shoebox swap (Click here to see the inspiration).  So this card was born! What do you think?

I used a pencil and ruler to lightly draw my horizon line (remember, I can't draw a straight line to save my life) and used this as my guide.  I started with the Smoky Slate for the horizon, then stamped the center also in Smoky Slate, then alternated Gorgeous Grape and Crushed Curry to complete the field.

What do you think?  Leave me a comment...and don't forget to follow my blog!

Hi there, Stamping Friends!  It's time for another Stamping with Friends Blog Hop.  As you know, Stamping with Friends is a group of Stampin' Up! Independent Demonstrators who enjoy paper crafting, creating cards, and other projects to share with each other and with you. If you've arrived from Karen's blog, welcome!  This time, the theme is to create a card or project based on a favorite technique.  There are sooooo many techniques that I love but with this project, I'm going to focus mainly on two.  Can you guess what one of them is? Yup, you guessed it...masking!  There're so many things you can do with this technique from: simple masking to creating seamless backgrounds and adding depth...hmmm, I think I've decided to do a blog series focusing on the different things you can do with masking. For this post, I chose to start with a simple spotlight masking technique. Let me show you how I created this card. Now I incorporated several other techniques (dry ...
