Hello, Stampers! The ROTD team is back again this month to share with you what we created with the elements from the Roll of the Die. Who's creating with me? Michelle Hollings and Kathy Jones Ervin...that's who. Check out the video to see what they've created.
It was totally appropriate that one of the elements was water coloring...did you know that July is World Watercoloring month?
World Watercolor Month, observed annually in July, celebrates art and creativity through the use of watercolors. Watercolor (watercolour, aquarelle) is a beautiful medium that has captivated people around the globe for centuries. Today, artists produce amazing paintings each day. In addition, sketchers continue to popularize water coloring as a wonderful way to add life and color to drawings of the world around them. This monthly observance encourages people to paint with watercolor. It’s also a good time to raise awareness about the importance of art and creativity everywhere. Of course, anyone can join the celebration. Whether you’re a master watercolorists or a beginner, it’s your time to show off your art.
Water coloring is NOT, I repeat, NOT my favorite medium for coloring...don't get me wrong, it's absolutely beautiful, but I don't think I do such a great job at it and therefore, I avoid it big time. Do you do that? Avoid things that you don't like or find difficult? But, the saying is "what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger"...so let's get stronger together with this water coloring thing.
Not so bad, huh? I tried lots...and I do mean lots of things before I finally landed with this beauty and Guess what? I have a complimentary tutorial for you which includes the supplies I used to create it.
When the wheel rolled Delft (Faux) tile technique, I knew right away I wanted to use the Stampin' Up! Graceful Tile set and it didn't hurt that there were some amazing sentiments in the set...check out the one I used on this card.
When you check out other videos of the Delft (Faux) tile technique, you'll see that I didn't quite stick to the letter of the law...I went where the creative juices flowed. I decided to make it my own and what I came up with, I think I would actually use as tile in my home if I were so inclined to redo my bathroom. Blue as you know, is my favorite color so I chose that as my main palette to work with and I thought the final meshing of colors was soothing. Do you agree?
Some key points to making this card:
1) Watercolor paper - because of the amount of water I used in making the card, regular cardstock will probably not give a good result.
2) Drying: ensure to dry between color applications. This ensures that you have a little more control of color placement.
3) Heat set the images. In this particular project, I didn't heat set the mosaic images so I had to be careful to ensure I didn't "blur" the images too much. Stampin' Up! inks are water-based so they will react when you add water.
