Hello everyone, and welcome back...and thank you for joining us for another Stamping with Friends Blog Hop! If you are new to my blog, Stamping with Friends is a group of Stampin' Up!® demonstrators worldwide who share our love of card-making through monthly blog hops with various themes. If you are following the hop, you'll have just popped over from Jana Secord - "Crazy Stampin Lady's blog. I hope you took a minute to leave a comment for her as I'm sure she'll appreciate it as much as I will. If you are starting the hop with me, thank you so much and I hope you enjoy what I and the other hoppers have prepared for you today!
Our theme today is technique focused...the Paper Kintsugi technique. What is that you may ask? Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer that is dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. This method is similar to the Maki-e technique. So now that you know what it is, let me share how I created today's card.
I'm not a big fan of tearing my paper...although I love lots of the card projects I see...and so I wanted to see if I could create a faux Kintsugi technique...enter the Versamark pen. After using the embossing buddy on a piece of the Inked & Tiled Designer Series Paper, I randomly drew lines that appear as cracks/rips/tears and then heat embossed it with the Silver embossing powder. I think it turned out pretty well.
I just watched fellow Stampin' Up! demonstrator, Lynn Dunn's video on the Ink dragging technique and thought I'd incorporate it into my project today, it seemed very appropriate.
I first embossed the 4" basic white panel using the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder. After embossing, I grabbed my Pretty Peacock ink pad and starting from an area off the panel, swiped the ink in a straight line from one side to the other...creating a focal strip.
What do you think? Do you like my faux Kintsugi card?
See how I did this in the YouTube video.
Measurements:
Basic white: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2; 4" x 5 1/4", scrap for sentiment
Basic Gray: 1 3/4" x 5 1/4"
Pretty Peacock: scrap for the sentiment (4 punched pieces)
Designer Series Paper: 1 1/2" x 5 1/4"
Thanks for hopping with us today, y'all! This is a fun technique and I hope you'll give it a try. Don't forget to pay a visit to the other hoppers as I'm sure you'll love what they create for you as well.
Happy Stamping!
